Do you remember those days when you were just a child and had nothing to do but just went outside and played?
As we grow older and responsibilities start to appear in our lifes, those moments we used to spend outside slowly start to diminish and become less frequent.
We transform ourselves from being active and always inventing new games to being behind a computer, iphone or a T.V. Be it either for homework or just fooling around; we feel that because we are older we cant play outdoors nor communicate verbally anymore.
Ever since I entered 7th grade I fell victim of this case of false sense of maturity. I stopped playing outside or being social with my family and replaced everything with technology. When I sat hypnotized behind the T.V or computer I felt mature; I felt as if I was already an adult.
Fortunately, this habit changed when I started to create a habit of writing for passion and not just when I had homework. This past week I have been writing all of the ideas I had for newspaper articles on a word document. Nevertheless, I didn’t stop writing down ideas but rather, when I wrote down the idea I developed it and wrote a complete article.
Obviously these are not articles which are ready to be published and most probably most of the words written down are rubbish. However, I am learning a valuable skill and that is how to put my ideas down on paper. Never before had I actually written newspaper articles for fun or enjoyed writing, but since I started to write about my passions this attitude has radically changed.
After I wrote down my first article and read it over I was embarrassed at the amount of mistakes and rubbish things I wrote but by the time I got to my third article I was actually proud and felt that with very little polishing I could actually finish a very good piece of work.
Connecting back to how our lives change, as we grow older I feel that the IA is giving me the chance to be and act as a mature person while at the same time allowing me to have that child life within me once again.
Although, I am not playing and fooling around as I did before when I was a little kid, I am now enjoying myself and “playing” in a different way than before. I am having fun by writing about football and Chelsea and getting my opinion heard.
Writing for fun is creating new things just as when we were little kids and created games and imaginary friends. This newly discovered passion not only allows me to be productive but also give me valuable skills that I will need all my life.
In my new “profession” as a writer I can express myself as I want and invent as many stories as I desire. Even though I am writing for a newspaper and the information has to be true my topic is unique and invented for me.
While writing, I feel like a child once again.
