Mambo
As part of the Innovation Academy program we students had the chance to have an internship at any company we wanted, so we could have an idea if that was a career we wanted to pursue in the future. For my internship I decided on working on a digital marketing company called Mambo. I chose this company because of the great work atmosphere it has. The way the office is set up and the friendliness of the workers is something every major company should strive for; as it allows people to work in a stress free environment that enables them to work to their maximum potential.
I have been working in the culture area of the company or as they call it at Mambo Cool-tura. This area of the company covers: human resources and the management of talents. I have been learning about the process of hiring and firing employees, pay rises, job promotion and how to keep your employees happy at work. I have learned how to create a culture where people are happy with their work environment and thus, enabling them to work to their maximum potential while being stress free.
Nevertheless, my learning outcomes don't stop there. I have also been taking the "Mambo University" courses. The courses, which are led by Nicolas Aramburu one of the founders of Mambo explain the ideology and culture of the company. Moreover, through different case studies and examples new employees like myself have the chance to work as if they were conducting real projects. This way, new employees can experience the “Mambo Way” and when put to work on real projects, their product is up to the companies standards. While taking the courses I have learned how to put forward a project brainstorm with a client, how to set up a business brief, how to talk to the inner client (other employees), the importance of success fees and many other key thing that you never learn in school.
The information and learning I have gotten by going out to the real world and experiencing how a business works is invaluable and I have learned valuable lessons that a school can never teach you. No matter how well a teacher explain the theory of something the lesson won't stick to you until you experience it first hand; and that is precisely what the internship has given me. I have learned the basics of startup businesses and how to keep employees happy. As an aspiring entrepreneur those two lessons will be valuable throughout my life and hopefully in a not so distant future I will have the chance to apply what I learned at Mambo in my own startup company.
