No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
And no one knows
What it's like to be hated
To be fated to telling only lies
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
And no one knows
What it's like to be hated
To be fated to telling only lies
Ten years later I re-discovered this gem, and what seemed like a cool song when I was young, now describes me perfectly. How others perceive me has always been a major concern, and it has shaped me for many years. I have played the game of pretend countless times just to fit in and not be marked upon. However, it was only today when I heard the famous song by Limp Bizkit “Behind Blue Eyes”, that I finally decided to show my emotions.
I have always hidden my feelings to others, be it sadness or guilt and as the song says, I did it behind my blue eyes. Countless times I have lied to avoid being hated by others, and that is a weakness that I have decided to overcome. Having all those feelings bottled up inside made me insane, but to everyone I was the perfect kid living as happy as I could be.
I have no one to blame, but myself for it as, I let them into believing that. I used my blue eyes as the song says and fake smile to hide all my problems away and be perceived as something I am not.
Nevertheless, that game of pretend is now over. No one knows what I have been through and will never do. By no means I write this as a self-pity blog, but as a way for myself to finally let everything out and be truly ready to change.
I want to help others lose that fear towards society and be happy. Society doesn’t know who you are or what your story is, so don’t let them judge you on you cover. The clichéd quote says “don’t judge a book by its cover” however, no matter what we say, our society does. They don’t see the harm they do to others by disrespecting them without knowing their tale and they critic strangers by how they pretend.
Modern society will never “ No one knows what it's like. To be the bad man... ” And by no means do I expect them too. After all, this is the same disgusting and sick society that makes us believe in happy endings and makes all girls want to be beauty queens. The same repulsive culture that makes young children hate their bodies because they are not “angels” as they call them. That is why as another famous clichéd quote says “ I want to be the change I want to see in the world” I want to leave all those grey days behind me and finally be free from my ghosts. I want to serve as an inspiration to all of those who lived behind a mask to finally break free and take pride from who they are.
Yes you will be criticized for expressing yourself, yes you may get weird looks but there is no better feeling than being who you truly are not hiding behind something you are not.
